There are tonnes of albums the Pigeons are looking forward to in 2008 and right up there will be thdebut by Leeds-based quartet Wild Beasts. Their special power is frontman Hayden Thorpe’s warbling and precious voice, which he uses almost like it’s a brass instrument. It’s so unusual and powerful it sometimes distracts from how good a band he has behind him. This single, their debut on Domino after two corkers for Bad Sneakers, is confidant, clever and rammed full of joy. A brilliant song from a band who should be fastening their seatbelts for a big ’08.
