Video blogs and concert DVD keeping wolf from Patrick’s door

Words Victor Wooley

Patrick Wolf Live

Good news forthe fans of androgynous, operatic pop music: London’s Mr Patrick Wolf is preparing not only a new album but a live DVD to boot. Photographer Brantley Gutierrez was on hand to shoot and, apparently, “direct” Wolf’s 2007 tour finale at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. In his own floridly written MySpace blog, Wolf revealed that he had finished “mixing and producing” the show’s audio for a Virgin television channel, which will air an abbreviated version of the concert ahead of the DVD’s release.

Wolf also revealed progress in following up his acclaimed 2007 LP The Magic Position. “I’m loading up my old laptops, generating beats and writing, typing non-stop at the piano keys and computer keys, trying to communicate some of the journeys, misadventures and experiences from the last couple of years since The Magic Position was completed,” he gushed. “Slowly recovering and returning to a more regular private rhythm of life. The new album’s release will, however, be preceded by that of the live DVD and, in other moving-image-related news, Wolf has seen fit to play a secret gig sponsored by Fujifilm. In a statement rather less cockle-warming than Wolf’s MySpace outpouring, Fujifilm explained: “Tickets will not be sold, but instead can be won via the Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd Facebook website.”

It gets worse. “The Facebook ™ site also sees Patrick blogging for Fujifilm, so that members can also engage with Patrick through his blogs as well as getting a peek backstage and beyond into the ‘World of Wolf’, where Patrick will be using the new Fujifilm FinePix Z10fd to document his day to day life” - when he’s not busy mixing and producing his “live” DVD, one presumes…
