Need to Know: Mysterious and criminally ignored hip hop collective
Hegel: There’s a lot of rubbish on the ol’ internet, and I’m not just talking about insufficiently filthy pornography (what can I say I have, er, very particular proclivities). No, what I mean is that there is a heck of a lot of rubbish music that no one wants to listen to cluttering up the internet. Previously hidden and brilliant gems are remarkably hard to find, and chances are if no one’s noticed it then it’s genuinely rubbish. At the end of the day, there’s an astonishing number of 18th century German idealist philosophers upturning Soundcloud and Tumblr in order to find these ever elusive hidden nuggets. It’s much like searching for some sort of thin needle like object in some sort of vast stack of grain of some sort.
So saying that obscurities so rarely ever blow us away, it’s even more surprising that ‘Blunt Hopes’ by ESMK has seriously rocked our proverbial socks off. The mysterious collective put this ice-cold and subtle yet threatening experimental hip hop banger out last year, and recently they’ve released this spiffing video to accompany it. There’s not much info floating about on this lot, and their website isn’t terribly informative, but consider our interest more than piqued.
