Mixtape: High Places
Blawan, Scuba and No Ceremony all feature on this classy new mix
High Places were making elegant, misty-eyed groovers long before it became compulsory for photogenic indieboys and indiegirls to hook up and start exploring their post-dubstep sides. They’re still doing it better than most now (read our recent interview here), and this new mix for The Stool Pigeon sees the California duo plumb crystal waters of inspiration in typically nuanced fashion, taking in spacey no-wave disco from ESG, jacking house from Gayland and old-skool beats courtesy of Carl Craig and Underworld man Darren Emerson, via a mix of a classic Everything But The Girl cut. There’s even room for a spot of post dubstep, thank God: check Hotflush don Scuba’s eerie gem ‘Latch’ for some o’ that jazz.
