Music: Cloud Nothings
Stream the Cleveland, Ohio band's 'Attack On Memory' in full
Dylan Baldi is drawing battle lines with Cloud Nothings’ February-slated Attack On Memory, saying of his band’s second album that “the title… is basically referencing the current trend toward hazy, electronic-y nostalgic music that is making up the ‘indie’ scene. I don’t really like that kind of music. This album is meant to place us more firmly outside of that category.”
That assertion is pretty much borne out by the record, which has been made available for streaming online — see below — and pursues an altogether stroppier, less tune-centric vision than the lean pop-punk of his debut. Veering between bad-vibes freakouts like the nine-minute (!) ‘Wasted Days’ and more immediate fair like ‘Fall In’, it’s a thrillingly uneven confirmation of Baldi’s songwriting talent.
That’s what we think, ayway. Make up your own mind. We can’t do it for you.
