Hardcore legends to reissue 'Statues' along with other rarities for Record Store Day
RECORD Store Day 2013 is fast approaching, and in honour of the event — which will be held on April 20 this year — Husker Dü will reissue ‘Statues’ and other rarities.
The tracks were recorded back in 1980 at Minneapolis’ Blackberry Way Studio. At the time, the band was in the running for a deal with Twin/Tone, but the label signed The Replacements instead.
After the record deal fell through, the band intended to self-release a four-track, 10” EP, but production costs forced them to release ‘Amusement’ and ‘Statues’ in 7” format.
‘Statues’ is a jangly post-punk number more akin to the likes of Pere Ubu than to the hardcore sound that eventually made them famous. It will be reissued along with ‘Amusement’, ‘Writer’s Cramp’ and ‘Let’s Go Die’ on a double 7” limited to 4,000 pressings.
