Janelle Monáe told a reporter she’d written “84.799 percent” of two new albums as far back as last November, adding that she hoped both would see light of day in 2012. Now two new tracks performed at Toronto’s Jazz Fest on Friday provide a possible glimpse into how that material’s shaping up, with ‘Electric Lady’’s sunshine funk revealing an obvious Stevie Wonder debt of influence and ‘Dorothy Dandridge Eyes’ — named after the Oscars’ first black Best Actress nominee — repping for the more jazz-hands end of Monáe’s repertoire. Oh, and speaking of Stevie Wonder — Janelle also mucked in on a performance of ‘Superstition by the man himself during the weekend’s festivities. Check all of the tracks out below.
