Bogota’s Meridian Brothers are not, as the name would have you believe, a band of brothers at all, but rather, the long-running concern of guitar virtuoso and multi-instrumentalist Eblis Álvarez. For his fourth official release under the moniker, Desesperanza (which translates as ‘hopelessness’), Eblis explores vintage Tropicália and salsa sounds through his warped psychedelic lens, resulting in a set that’s by turns playful, weird and dark. The record drops September 24 via Soundway, but before then, you can listen to this delicious mix Eblis made comprising come of his favourite tropical tunes from Columbia and the Dominican Republic.
