BOOTY bass pioneers 2 Live Crew have announced details of their reformation and plans to tour over the summer.

Rapper/producer/label boss/former mayoral candidate Luther Campbell revealed that the notorious group — whose 2 million-selling album As Nasty As They Wanna Be brought down obscenity charges on three of their number in 1990 — while promoting a short film called The Life and Freaky Times of Uncle Luke at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday.

“I just can’t wait to just start practising,” said Campbell. “That’s going to be a blast.”

“We’re going to perform the songs and everybody’s going to be excited. Some of the older people of our generation will be able to tell their kids, ‘You’re staying home tonight, we’re going to see 2 Live Crew and shake our booty!’”

In recent years, Campbell — formerly known as Luke Skyywalker — has turned his hand to politics, running for mayor of the Miami-Dade county in 2011 and making off with an impressive 11% of the vote, finishing fourth.

Campbell was put up to the job by the editor of the Miami New Times, who was looking for a publicity stunt to spice up his paper’s election coverage. However, Campbell quickly became serious about the project, at one point threatening to slam down a jar of Vaseline on live television and announce to his fellow candidates, “I’m tired of all you politicians dry-fucking us! At least use a little love when you’re fucking us!”.
