Former Pistol to appear on 'Question Time' with Louise Mensch and Alan Johnson tonight
Oi oi, this one looks like it could get a bit tasty! John Lydon is scheduled to appear on Question Time tonight (July 5) alongside former home secretary Alan Johnson with attention-seeking Tory MP Louise Mensch.
No surprise here, perhaps, but Lydon hasn’t been shy of criticising Cameron’s rabble in recent months. Asked about last year’s summer riots, the Pistols/PiL frontman spoke of being “deeply ashamed of a government that doesn’t have a clue what’s going on.” Mensch must be bricking it.
Lydon told NME: “I was very upset with [the riots]. People got killed. It was a great tragedy, a great tragedy caused by a government and a police force that’s completely indifferent to what young people have as a future. They’re given nothing now, even less than when I was young and that hurts me deeply.”
He added: “It’s definitely going to lead to something far, far worse. It’s brewing. It’s palpable. You can feel the tension. It’s waiting to go off like an enormous bomb. It will be blamed on the kids on the street, and it isn’t their fault. I’m very deeply ashamed of a government that doesn’t have a clue what’s going on.”
Tonight’s episode of Question Time kicks off at 10.35pm on BBC1. Read our own terrific interview with Lydon HERE.
