Earlier this month, Lauryn Hill bristled at the suggestion she may have neglected to pay $1.8 million in income tax for the years 2005-2007 (“the military-industrial complex made me do it,” was the basic gist of her response). Now she’s pleaded guilty to charges levelled by the IRS and is facing up to three years in prison and $75,000 in fines when she is sentenced in November. Hill’s attorney Nathan Hockman bleated: “There are many people in society who fail to file their taxes on time who only face civil liability… They chose Ms. Hill in particular because of who she was.”
