News: Lillian Lopez
Remember the Odyssey lead singer by listening to these three classic hits
LEAD singer of Odyssey, Lillian Lopez (above right), has died of cancer, aged 76.
The group were formed in New York by Lopez in 1977 with her two sisters Carmen and Louise, although Carmen soon left to be replaced by Filipino singer Tony Reynolds. They scored a quick hit with their most-enduring song, ‘Native New Yorker’, which peaked at number 5 on the UK singles chart, despite going unnoticed in the US. They later had a UK number 1 with ‘Use It Up And Wear It Out’, by which time they had permanently moved to Britain.
Hear ‘Native New Yorker’ performed on Top Of The Pops, ‘Use It Up And Wear It Out’ and ballad ‘If You’re Looking For A Way Out’ below.
