Video: Richard Hell

See the proto-punk icon star with Andy Warhol and a Bond girl in 1980 film

Richard Hell stars in Blank Generation, a little-seen musical drama from 1980 named after his album/song of the same name and directed by Ulli Lommel. It’s a bit of an art-school bore, to be perfectly honest (Hell himself is on record as saying “there’s not a single authentic, truthful moment in the movie”), but it’s still a thrill to see the youthful musician playing opposite stroppy new wave madam Carole Bouquet (who was later to raise a saucy eyebrow on Roger Moore as a Bond girl in The Spy Who Loved Me). Other cool stuff: plenty of opportunities to see Hell cut loose with his band the Voidoids onstage, and a teasing cameo from Andy Warhol just after the hour mark.

You can read an interview with Mr Hell here.
