Video: Stringer Bell
'The Wire' actor Idris Elba tries his hand at rapping in abysmal video with some band from Essex

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. Once upon a time, Hackney boy Idris Elba was absolutely majestic as Baltimore drug baron Stringer Bell, brushing up on his Friedman economics between strutting about the low-rises and deciding which gangstas need to get got with a master chess player’s stroke of his chin. Sad to say, it’s all been downhill from ‘The Wire’. First he starred in maverick cop drama ‘Luther’ for the Beeb, then there was a small role in the equally cack sci-fi bore Prometheus earlier this year. But nothing can prepare you for this, the actor’s attempt at rapping on Essex pals The Milks’ new single ‘Picking Up The Pieces’. Guitarist Dan Le Gresley lied to The Sun: “If [Idris' rap] had been rubbish we wouldn’t have had it on there for the sake of it. But it’s absolutely wicked. We love it.”
