Brother Ali – Mourning In America And Dreaming In Color
Rhymesayers

Socially conscious rapper Brother Ali returns with his most definitive musical statement yet, cogently expressing forceful views on the hypocrisies of his native land on Mourning In America… ‘Stop the Press’ is straight-up autobiographical rap, Ali describing what he’s been up to the last few years in a very direct way (“new year, new beard, and new record / made a couple adjustments, I wanna discuss it”).The thematic elements explored on controversial 2007 single ‘Uncle Sam Goddam’ are back, albeit from a slightly more optimistic perspective, from the first bars of opener ‘Letter To My Countrymen’ to closer ‘Singing This Song’. Elsewhere, the rage returns on ‘Work Everyday’ and the title track, but unfortunately Ali’s righteous rhymes are let down by fairly weak production throughout and the odd lapse into sentimental filler.
