The name of the biblical light-bearer is appropriate to the second album from Aaron Coyes and Indra Dunis, which drives out the darkest, dubbiest shadows from the psychedelic, trip-hop-dub-pop of last year’s Weird World reissue 936 in favour of a more effervescent take on the band’s basic blueprint. The couple’s new baby appears on the blissed-out-to-shit ‘LO HI’, and Dunis sounds so very much at peace on the snaking, twangin’, Scream-y ‘Beautiful Son’ that its seems churlish to suggest we liked it better when they were a bit heavier (as on, here, the Afrodubbin’ ‘Midnight (In The Valley Of Shadows)’ — but hey ho, each to their own and all of that.
