A sibling pair of ingénues from LA with a secret weapon in 16-year-old guitar ace Skylar Kaplan, Puro Instinct’s debut is a siren-like, supernaturally pleasant affair that draws inspiration from Fleetwood Mac, Kiss In The Dreamhouse-era Siouxsie And The Banshees and that most Californian of influences, The Bangles pre-gloss pop makeover. They veer a little close to blog-bland flimsiness at times, but taken as a whole the record works like a dream, as if purposely designed to make you forget yourself and rob you of your memories. Whereupon they serve them, presumably, on a silver dish to their consort and master Ariel Pink, like lady Salome with John The Baptist’s head.
