Being a Ty Segall fan can be testing. The 24-year-old’s rapid-fire output doesn’t always do his talents justice, with so many 45s and split EPs that keeping up can be a costly business. This full-length collaboration sees Segall on rhythm guitar and drums with fellow Californian Tim Presley, the man behind psych weirdoes White Fence, on bass and lead guitar. The results are an entertaining muddle, with sloppy sixties jams (‘Get Around You’ and ‘Tongues’) weighing down pithy pop stompers (‘Easy Ryder’ and ‘Scissor People’), but casual Segall fans can give this a miss knowing there’ll be another release along shortly. This is for the completists.
